Food and Fun - July 11, 2009
So many people have been so generous in their thanks for my work on the reunion this year and I appreciate the praise. I enjoyed it more than I ever thought I could, but I really need to thank some people too:
Mark for reserving the institute building and providing the slide projector;
Stephanie (my daughter) for helping with the family tree activity;
Zach Woolsey for drawing the amazing tree;
my husband, Gaylin, for his unwavering support;
Mom, for her labor of love, the genealogy CD;
and all of you for sending pictures, bringing taster's table items and contributing to the lunch.

This and That.......
1) The reunion flier requests newly wed couples to bring rolls or chips. Sloppy Jo's are being added to the menu so it doesn't make sense to serve rolls as well. SO..... if you're one of the newly weds and are planning to come to the reunion, please bring chips!
2) I haven't spent alot of time worrying about activities for the teens and young adults, sorry. The hope is (always) that you will mingle with others that you don't know and have fun becoming aquainted. SO..... bring lawn games, board games, soccer balls, etc., and make your own activities.
3) The Institute has a nice lawn with some shade trees out front so if you want to bring a quilt to lounge on outside for some of the time, either by yourself or small groups (it could get crowded inside), feel free.
4) We're planning to have a room set aside for young children so they can have fun and their parents can be free to socialize. HOWEVER, in order for everyone (who has small children) to have the same opportunity to visit/mingle, I'd like to request that you volunteer to take a turn of 30 minutes in the "play room" helping to entertain the kiddies. We'll have a signup sheet in the room, so please stop by and sign up for a shift (we'll have 3 or 4 there at a time). Also, this is not a nursery where you can pull out a bunch of toys, so if you have ideas for games or activities, please come prepared with supplies....I thank you, the kids will thank you!
Well, that's all for now......stay tuned!

Bits and pieces

Just a few items of clarification......the leaves for the family tree are about 2 x 3 inches so if your pictures are 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter, they'll fit just right. We have leaves that are slightly bigger for couples.
I've heard from Ruth, Cathy, Susan and my mother about taster table treats so we'll have red cabbage, carrot pudding, red mush and Grandma's ice box cookies. Anyone else planning to participate? It's okay to have duplicates. If I have time, I'll bring some Klijner.
Doug just sent me some pictures of him, Lucille, me, Cathy when we were all really young. I can't wait 'til the reunion to share them.

Family tree activity

One of the activities planned for the reunion is constructing a family tree. One of Cathy's sons-in-law, Zach Woolsey, painted a tree and we'll have all the leaves, you just need to bring a small picture of every member of your family.......that's you, your kids, and your grandchildren. This is what I have in mind. Just reprint some snapshots and cut each person's face out. We'll have scissors and glue sticks there so just bring the pictures.
You will add your leaves to the tree as you arrive at the Institute. This will help us to see the extent of Knute and Orpah's posterity and get to know each other at the same time.
Our time to visit is limited so PLEASE plan to come as close to the beginning of the reunion as you can, not just in time for lunch. It will take you between 2 and 4 hours to get to Twin Falls, depending on where you live, so plan to get ready to leave the night before so you can get an early start.

We're almost there!

You all should have received an email with an attached flier/invitation for the reunion...July 11th, just in case you're not sure. I'll post the flier here too, and a link to the map and directions to the institute. Remember, you can click on the pictures and they will come up full screen.
The map instructions are given as if you are coming down from Nampa, but you will take exit 173 if you are coming from Utah, too. The institute is on the south side of the road a few blocks after you make the turn onto Falls Ave.

I'll enter more posts every day or two so stay tuned! I can't wait to see everyone!
